The British Union Conference (BUC) Executive Committee on Thursday, 18 January, has elected Dr Augustus Lawrence as the new Evangelism Director of the BUC after the role became vacant in September 2023 following the election of the incumbent, Dr Kirk Thomas, as President for the South England Conference at their 2023 Session.

Lawrence has served at the SEC as Stewardship and Trust Services Director and previously as Family Ministries Director, a role he served in for eight years.

Following his years of service at the South England Conference, Lawrence says he will continue to make his calling to ministry effective by prayerfully modelling the pastoral and evangelistic mandate in Ephesians 4:12-14. He intends to equip and facilitate the development of believers through prayers and dependence on the help of the Holy Spirit. His prayer is to also do the work of a servant leader through preaching and teaching the everlasting gospel to this generation and preparing men and women for the second coming of Jesus.

Lawrence is a native of Liberia and rooted in Christian education. He was mentored in the Seventh-day Adventist ministry by gifted and spiritual evangelists and administrators. He started his theological education at Northern Caribbean University in Jamaica, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theology and a minor in Communication. He then pursued the Master of Pastoral Ministry and Leadership degree from Newbold College. He also pursued a Bachelor of Laws degree and a Doctor of Ministry degree from the Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary in Michigan in 2012.

Taking up his new role, Lawrence states, "I confess I do not know everything, but the little I have I give to the Lord and with the help of the Holy Spirit and working in collaboration with others, I believe God is going to do a great work through us."  He adds, "we desire to reach every searching heart we can for God's Kingdom with the message of God's redeeming love."
