Book Review – Resilience: Overcoming Life's Turbulences and Rising Triumphantly

A young author writes this book, and I recommend it to those who are experiencing challenges in their lives. It will give you hope, inspiration, the desire to accomplish your dreams, and knowledge of resilience.

Resilience by Dahlia Allen is very revealing. It tells the life story of a young Jamaican woman, formerly a dress designer, who experienced different challenges in her life. Despite the turbulence, she held firmly to Adventism, knowing that God would carry her through and that she would fulfil her dreams and become a cabin crew member.

She takes you through light moments of migrating from her beautiful home country, Jamaica and leaving behind a loving family. The contrast between the beautiful scenery and sunny weather of Jamaica and the climatic changes she experienced in the United Kingdom is overwhelming. You go with her on her journey as she gradually adjusts to the culture, settles herself, and develops through seeking employment and progressing academically and professionally.

The writer shows how you can fortify your faith and that you are never alone in all your struggles and challenges, even with the greatest one, your health. Through God, you can develop perseverance and strength despite the pains and distress of ill health, incidents, accidents, and medical negligence. Moreover, the experience of hospital distress and medical examinations are overbearing. Through all this and with God's mercy and love, she held on, fulfilling her dream as a cabin crew.

The final blow to culminate it all was the death of a loved one. Go with her through her response of agony, shock and denial that she displayed on hearing such sad news and being so far from home.

Furthermore, as a young and desirable woman, she yearns for male companionship, and to fall in love. Relationships can go through storms, blaming herself as a Christian. It is not unusual within the church to ask God for guidance with such a relationship. Additional disappointment will come, but hold on to your faith and the church and firmly believe in the Almighty God. Being in a foreign country, the writer shows how this affected her emotionally, as she yearns for love, support, and understanding from a loving family.

What's fascinating is that she didn't immediately share her achievement of becoming a cabin crew member and flying around the world. As you read her story, you'll discover the reasons behind her decision and the role of faith in her journey. It's a compelling testimony to her unyielding resilience and faith.

I recommend that all young people read this book, as I enjoyed how she takes you through the steadfastness of her faith. Working together with the church and spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ is an endeavour. When progressing in life, one should fortify themselves with salient scriptures from the King James Version of the Bible. Singing and praising God acts like a buffer in life. Pain and bitterness will come, but hold on to the promise that God will never leave or forsake you.

Resilience will develop as you experience many turbulences, but you will be happy and alive to serve others, as your life is a testimony.
